May 15, 2016
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
We know perception and reality don’t always match up. But what can we do about it? We assume that the external world maps our internal experience. This is a cup. I pour water into it and have a drink. But psychologists and neuroscientists are discovering that even perception is not fixed but flexible, and that we are incapable of being fully objective, even in our most mundane observations. Knowing this, let’s talk about the tools that can help us navigate the stormy waters of our personal relationships and today’s political landscape, so we can make more space for grace in our daily lives.
