Nov 30, 2014
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by David Ruffin, Resident Minister.
There are walls around me. Walls around all of us. Walls of misperception, yielding walls around our hearts, all of which have erected structural walls of injustice in our country and world. Racism in America is a particularly malicious misperception, whose walls not only continue to imprison the heart of this country, but prove lethal to our children. Amidst the intensity of recent collisions with these walls, our focus has again sharpened upon them.
But how do we keep from yet again merely pacing their perimeter? What will enable us truly to transform our walls into bridges for our children to a future free from the prison of racism? Whatever the color of our skin, how do we sustain our commitment to end racism as if the lives of our very children depended on our success? ...because they absolutely do.
