Aug 20, 2017
The message was delivered on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister at the Humanist Service.
Reverend Lavanhar speaks frankly and personally about the impact of the Charlottesville protests on him as a person with a Jewish heritage and an African American child. He lifts up a sophisticated and morally nuanced critique of the protests and counterprotests and makes a case for a nonviolent response to the rising wave of neo-fascist elements in America today. It is also a passionate defense of free speech and a warning to liberal activists about the commitment, discipline and self-sacrifice required of non-violent resistance.
