Apr 12, 2015
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
What did John mean when he said the truth will set us free? Did he mean some absolute, religious truth? Some scientific, unifying theory of everything? Or did he mean, that when we claim our own story and make meaning from telling the truth of our own lives, then we are not only emulating Jesus but setting each other free?
Long before I dared to speak of the truth of my own life, my soul resonated with the words of John in chapter 8, verse 2-8. "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." Last month I told a true story about my own life and was amazed by what happened afterwards.
If you're struggling to tell the truth, maybe even to yourself, join me this Sunday. What if God wants us to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? And then we discover that we are still loved?
