May 24, 2015
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
In the movie Her, a man falls in love with his operating system. In the movie Ex Machina, a man is murdered by the robot or Artificial Intelligence he created. We ourselves, seem programmed to push technology and consciousness to the limit, or even beyond the limit. As the reality of robots and virtual realities permeate our daily lives, (think of a car that talks to you, betting on virtual sports teams, remote home medical monitors) we’ll take some time to examine our need for human and non-human contact and the deeper desires expressed in the diverse ways we each choose to communicate, connect, sustain and transcend contact.
