Mar 13, 2016
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
We are a people who believe in original blessing, not original sin. So theoretically, there’s nothing for us to be saved from. Certainly we don’t need to be saved from death itself.
But what if what we really need, is to be saved from our selves? Then our sins – our experiences of turning away from the light and allowing ourselves to be pulled into the darkness – are the signs and signals we need, to help us turn our lives back around. “Sin is our only hope,” writes Barbara Brown Taylor, “because the recognition that something is wrong is the first step toward setting it right again.”
