The sermon was delivered on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Tamara Lebak, Associate Minister.

SERMON DESCRIPTION

This Memorial Day we are called to remember those who have died in service of our country. This year will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the ‘War to end All Wars.” Military casualties are not a thing of the past. The Washington Post has dedicated a website to photographs of Americans who have died as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, and Operation Enduring Freedom. There are nearly 7,000 faces. Of those fatalities, 129 were Oklahomans. They are mostly men, but not all. They are mostly between the ages of 20-24. More than 5,000 died in the midst of hostile action or IED (Improvised Explosive Devices). These are our neighbors, our family members ,our friends. No matter your stance on our involvement, these lives deserve to be honored for their sacrifice. Join me this Sunday as we remember the fallen.
