Dec 13, 2015
The message was delivered on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
The headlines recently are disturbing:
“There Have Been More Mass Shootings Than Sunrises This Year.”
“World War Isis.”
“God Isn’t Fixing This.”
With headlines like that, it’s time to talk. Are we violent or compassionate by nature? Are wars inevitable or avoidable?
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The choice is not between violence and nonviolence but between nonviolence and nonexistence.”
What is the opposite of violence, if it is not nonviolence?
It’s time to talk because the more we understand about the roots of violence, the more we can effectively contribute to and create peace, in the world and in our own lives.
It’s time to talk, because what we think and believe really matters.
