Sep 6, 2015
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.
Summer 2015 has been filled with news and events that could deem it “The American Summer of Discontent.” Christian business owners, and government employees, who do not want to serve gay and lesbian couples and families have been sounding the alarms of discrimination. Race has continued to divide our nation’s people from the Confederate Flag controversy to the Black Lives Matter campaigns and repeated stories alleging race-related police misconduct. Donald Trump has been stirring anti-immigrant sentiments. More mass shootings in churches and movie theaters have pitted those who want gun control against those who are adamant about gun rights. Members of All Souls might wonder, “What does our affirmation of ‘Love Beyond Belief’ call us to do and be in such times?”
