The message was delivered on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar and Rev. Barbara Prose at the Humanist Service.
The recent eclipse has our ministers thinking about how sometimes something small, in relative terms, keeps us from feeling the warmth and light of the one thing that makes our life possible. We especially see this with all of the divisions in our country and the way it is dividing families and communities. Conflict is not the end of the story it is a necessary part of moving toward something new. There is a breakdown right now in our collective ability to have constructive conflict. Using the issue of taking down Confederate monuments, the ministers offer a hard hitting and playful message on how to have better conversations between people who disagree.
