The sermon was delivered on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry.
Have you ever felt like your heart is out of order? Are your priorities are confused? Is your time at All Souls not satisfying your need for an intimate and profound connection with yourself or the Sacred? Today's challenges are not identical to the challenges the first Christian or Buddhist monks faced more than a thousand years ago. But, ancient Eastern and Western monasteries were counter cultural communities which resisted the religious and secular demands of their day. Modern monastics claim to live in monasteries without walls. What might the monk as a universal archetype have to teach us, iconoclasts of today, about the reordering of our own hearts?
