Apr 17, 2016
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Bishop Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister.
It is an American cultural condition to “hold on.” It’s part of our common consciousness and motivates us from birth. We naturally hold on to our mother’s breast for nourishment and life. “Holding on for dear life” is a term of both desperation and strength. Letting go on the other hand is in sometimes considered a weakness and even for some, a sin. But there comes a time when letting go can actually save your life. Letting go is often a more rewarding discipline than hanging on. In this day of ongoing change and evolution, we must all learn the art, discipline and science of letting go.
