The reflection was delivered on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Dr. Willie J. Parker, MD, MPH, MSC.
REFLECTION DESCRIPTION
A modern day meditation on the encounter of Jesus with religious leaders prosecuting and judging a women for sexuality and adultery then, sexuality and abortion now.
Dr. Willie J. Parker is a reproductive justice advocate. Raised in poverty, he was “born again” and did a stint as a boy preacher in a Baptist Church, went on to Harvard, had a distinguished career as an obstetrician and then had his “Come to Jesus” moment, when he decided to give up his career and become an abortion provider. He currently provides abortion care for women in five U.S. states. His work includes a focus on violence against women, sexual assault prevention, and reproductive health rights through advocacy, provision of contraceptive and abortion services, and men's reproductive health.
In an interview with Esquire Magazine, he states, “The protestors say they’re opposed to abortion because they’re Christian. It’s hard for them to accept that I do abortions because I’m a Christian."
