The sermon was delivered on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister.

SERMON DESCRIPTION

A new crop of graduates are setting off on the next stage of their lives this summer. Most likely their heads are filled with dreams and visions of what their futures might look like. At least, we hope they have some dreams. How about for the rest of us? What has happened to your dreams? Have they come true? Have they been lost? In the movie The Graduate, there is a character, Mrs. Robinson, who has lost her dreams and lost interest in life and so she escapes into having sexual affairs with young men who are half her age and who she barely knows. When we stop dreaming, our hearts begin to die and our souls begin to dry out. In contrast, there are dreamers in life whose lives seem filled with passion and hope and possibility. As we congratulate our graduates on Sunday at 10 and 11:30, let us talk about having dreams and not having dreams and what that means. All graduates of all ages, high school and above, will be honored in our services.
