Sep 1, 2013
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, September 1, 2013, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Assistant Minister.
I turned fifty this year and started working out. At CrossFit classes I’ve learned what burpees, back squats, and box jumps are. The more energy I expend at the gym, the more energy I have for the rest of my day. Working out, and our work matters. It shapes our lives as individuals and as a congregation. How much we work, how much we get paid for our work, where we work, why we work… all matters.
In our church, we have young adults looking for work for the first time, and older adults wondering what they will do after they retire. We have middle-aged folks in the middle of mid-life crises and retirees who make the work of the church possible because of how they generous they are with their time.
Why do you do the work you do?
This Labor Day weekend, we’ll explore the meaning and value of work in our lives and celebrate the work we do!
